An emblem or badge must sit neatly on a piece of clothing, otherwise the message will not get across properly.
Therefore, here are a few tips on how to neatly sew an emblem or badges onto your garment:

  1. Wash the garment and let it dry thoroughly. If it is dry, the fabric will not bubble under the badge / emblem. Iron the fabric that comes under the emblem, then you remove all creases.
  2. Use needle and thread. Make sure you have the right color of yarn. Don't have the same color yarn? No problem, choose a color that is darker than the color of the badge. The rule here is: dark on light or light on dark is good.
  3. Place the badge / emblem on the fabric and make sure it lies correctly. Is it corporate clothing? Then ask your supervisor where the emblem should be sewn onto the clothing. Pin the badge and check that it is seated properly. How do you do that? Very easy! Put on the clothes. It often helps if someone else takes a look. He or she can better see from a distance how the emblem / badge is attached to the garment. When you put on the clothes, you fill them up. The decal spot could change too much and make it look bad.
  4. When you're done with this check, it's time to affix the badge to the fabric. You can do this with a pin, but also with self-adhesive hem tape. This holds the decal in place. You cut a hem band in the shape of the emblem or badge. Place this band in the right place and place the emblem on it. Iron it so that it is flat and without wrinkles.
  5. Use a maximum of 50 centimeters of yarn, long pieces of yarn tangle faster than shorter ones.
  6. Pull the yarn through the needle and tie a knot at the end of the thread.
  7. Pass the needle and thread through the fabric and decal. These are attached to the garment in this way. Start from the bottom, so you put the needle upwards through the clothing and the emblem.
  8. It is best to keep a distance of 5 millimeters between the different stitches, so that the emblem is firmly attached everywhere.
  9. Choose a straight stitch from top to bottom and back again. Keep the distance between the stitches even, because then the end result will look tight.
  10. When you're done, tie a knot in the yarn. You do this by making a loop and pulling the needle through it. Now the yarn is securely attached. Then cut the yarn, but leave a piece of 1 cm. This way you don't accidentally cut the knot you just made. You can tuck the remaining yarn under the emblem.
